It’s been quite the year for Michael Woods. Building off of his 2018 3rd Place World Champion finish, Woods has had several podium finishes in 2019. But this story starts long before the name Woods became part of cycling vernacular. It starts with a Quebec City-based development team Woods joined after competing in his first bicycle race in 2012. That team was our very own, Garneau-Quebecor.

Supporting young talent and fostering relationships is an unspoken tradition at Garneau. We are proud to have helped develop 4* of the 12 Canadian cyclists to ever participate at the Tour de France since its very beginning in 1903. Rusty Woods became part of the Garneau family in 2013, so when the need for a comfortable shoe topped the Woods To Do List, you might say he called home.

The Course Air Lite cycling shoes need no gloss to shine. With X-Comfort Zone technology, this shoe is the world’s most comfortable cycling shoe. The X-Comfort fits two different foot widths due to an expandable zone that stretches up to 5 mm. This technology improves power, reduces injuries, and creates unsurpassed comfort. By itself, we had outfitted Woods with a shoe perfect for the Grand Tour.

"I could not be happier with the quality and performance of my new Course Airlite II shoes. Light, responsive and breathable even in the hottest of weather, these shoes stand up to the rigors of racing at the sport’s highest level. In 2019, they have helped me win and they have played a major role in my most consistent season to date. As I now start my first Tour de France, I will be wearing these shoes with confidence!” - Mike Woods

X-Comfort : Fit Before Fonction

We've spent decades addressing power transfer and shoe weight, but the most common problem resulting in numbness and irritation is fit. Not only is shoe width a major problem, but foot volume expansion during any type of exercise has also been a neglected conversation, until now. The patent-pending technology expands to accommodate the rider's foot and foot expansion.

Fit Different Shoe Widths

The X-Comfort Zone is an expandable zone that stretches up to 5 mm to provide comfort and prevent numbness during long rides. In addition, the X-Comfort allows shoes to fit two different widths, from C to D, thanks to a ventilated elastomer-spandex insert. The X-Comfort Zone creates a dynamic, non-constrictive fit for the foot’s natural toe splay, which improves power, reduces injuries, and creates unsurpassed comfort.

Feet Swell During Exercise

When cycling, feet swell due to the increase in blood flow to the muscles. Often cyclists' remedy has been to choose shoes a little larger for added room in the toe box. To avoid slippage, dials and straps were tightened causing pressure on the tendons and restricting natural foot movement during the pedal stroke. With the X-Comfort, the area fits snug to the rider's foot and adjusts as the foot widens during pedal stroke.

The Course Air Lite, the reference in road cycling shoes, returns in 2018 in a stiffer version that adapts to all foot types. The new stiff Powerzone system covers the central part of the shoe, which wraps the foot to eliminate any movement when you are pulling on the pedals. So that the Course Air Lite also adapts to all types of foot arches, we’ve included the Transfo 3D insole that allows you to choose the level of arch support that best suits you. Weighing barely 7.8 oz (222 g) for a size 42 shoe, the Course Air Lite cycling shoe offers optimal comfort, spectacular performance and the highest ventilation for the least weight.

Winner of the 2017 Eurobike Award

We are constantly innovating and our cycling shoes have changed the game many times over the years. In 2009, we invented patented Ergo Air® ventilated soles to reduce heat build-up. In 2016, we invented the Power Zone, a system of increased support of the arch, to achieve better energy transfer. This year, we are launching the X-Comfort Zone, a technology that increases the comfort of every cyclist by adapting to the individual anatomy of the foot. — Louis Garneau

The X-Comfort Zone has really helped my feet be more comfortable with the extra give on the upper part of the shoe removing pressure points on my feet. You can really feel the difference on long hot days! — Ryan Anderson, professionnal cyclist, Rally Cycling
Comfort, after 15 hours of cycling, takes on a new dimension.
