Part 3 | What Actually Worked: Gear, Choices, and Survival

Part 3 | What Actually Worked: Gear, Choices, and Survival

Our final day pushed everything to the limit.

Day 7: Geiranger ➡️Ålesund

  • 132.7 km
  • 2,390 m elevation

By this point, performance mattered less than durability.

What worked on this Norway cycling trip:

Evolution Shorts & ZAP Evolution Shorts
Warm, supportive, and dependable in cold, wet conditions. When temperatures dropped, I layered sweatpants over them without sacrificing comfort.

Women’s Jade XZ Shoes
Stable enough for walking ferry ramps, riding with a missing pedal, and standing for long periods in wet conditions. Reliability mattered more than weight savings.

Skipping bibs
With frequent stops, ferries, and unpredictable breaks, convenience won. Sometimes the smartest gear choice is the most practical one.

Norway didn’t go easy on us.
It tested our preparation, our tolerance for cold, and our ability to adapt on the fly.

But the reward was worth it.

The fjords. The climbs. The silence between switchbacks.
Some rides are about speed.
This one was about resilience.
